Vince Carter Says Luka Doncic Should Play More Like Chris Paul To Help Mavericks Win: "I Think Luka Needs To Trust His Guys A Little More And Take A Little Piece Out Of CP3's Book And Use Spencer Dinwiddie And Jalen Brunson"

Luka Doncic is struggling to beat the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 2022 NBA playoffs. The young superstar is on a solo mission right now, going against the well-coached Suns team that has proven to be a tough task for him.

Chris Paul has made him pay on defense, and the Suns have taken advantage of that, easily beating the Mavs in the first two games of the series. Many people say Luka needs help, but the roster the Mavs have right now is capable of making things harder for the Suns.

One former player-turned-analyst shared a piece of advice for the Slovenian player on how he can maximize his chances to win against the Suns and the rest of the teams in the competition. Carter recalled that during the Jazz series, the team relied on other players and Luka should use them to release some pressure off his shoulders and have bigger chances to win (1:08).

"Offensively I think Luka needs to trust his guys a little more and take a little piece out of CP3's book as far as utilizing what Spencer Dinwiddie brings to the table, utilizing what Jalen Brunson brings to the table because these guys are very capable."

"When Luka was not on the floor, they relied on those two guys and everybody thought 'oh are the Dallas Mavericks in trouble?' No, they saved the day getting wins for the Mavericks until Luka got back. So, for him, he has to trust more because yes he can dominate and score 35."

Doncic is a generational talent, no doubt about it, but nobody has won a championship by themselves. Michael Jordan had Scottie Pippen and a series of players that helped him even in the clutch. LeBron James has shared touches with players who have saved him more than once; Kawhi Leonard had a good supporting cast in Toronto, and Giannis Antetokounmpo had the right pieces last year.

They still led their teams to the promised land but knew that their teammates were there to help them and took big advantage of that. Perhaps Luka needs to take this approach and be more like Chris Paul to surprise rivals while making things easier for himself. Game 3 is tonight and he'll need to show up and bring something different or the Suns will take a commanding 3-0 lead.
