When the Warriors swapped D'Angelo Russell for Andrew Wiggins, most didn't know what to think. D'Lo is more accomplished, more well-rounded and is generally considered to have a much higher ceiling.
For the Warriors, it seems they're convinced that Wiggins is a much better fit for their franchise. In a conversation with Anthony Slater of The Athletic, team coaches explained why.
“We’re having more fun,” a Warriors coach said. “The puzzle now fits.”
“We’ve been able to plug him in on the opponent’s best player,” Kerr said. “That alone just allows us to set up our defense better. Because of his size and length, you can put him on the opponent’s best guy and match up from there.”
Wiggins is more suited for the Warriors' roster. He sets up better matchups defensively and adds a wing scorer on offense.
Upon the return of Steph and Klay, it will be much easier to integrate him with those stars than it would be for D'Lo, whose fit with the Splash Bros has always been seen as questionable.
So far, the results have been impressive -- with Wiggins shooting at an insane efficiency and the team just looking better as a whole. It'll be interesting to see how things develop over time.
