Tyrese Maxey has established himself as a rising star in the league, breaking out last season alongside Joel Embiid. Ben Simmons' refusal to play opened up an opportunity for Maxey, and he took full advantage of it. Maxey averaged an excellent 17.5 points per game on nearly 50% shooting from the field and over 42% from three-point range.
So even though the Sixers got bounced in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Maxey has made himself a fan favorite. But all that counts for very little when a player like Kevin Durant is available for trade. There has been speculation that the Sixers could make a play for Durant, but considering what the Nets are asking for, Maxey would likely have to be a part of any package.
And while many arguments can be made about whether the Sixers should do that deal or not, one fan has made his feelings on the subject quite clear. An 8-year-old Sixers fan's father explained to him that Maxey might have to leave the team in any move for Durant, and it drove the youngster to tears.
Kid's dad: "So you would rather have them not trade for Durant if they had to trade Maxey? You don't want Maxey to leave?"
Kid: *Cries and says no*
Kid's dad: "Well, it didn't happen yet, it's just a proposal. So you'd say no to Kevin Durant to keep Maxey? Would you be sad if Maxey left Philadelphia?"
Kid: *continues crying and shakes his head yes*
It's extremely wholesome to see a fan this invested in his team, and his favorite player, and this young fan's mood was about to brighten up even if he didn't know it. Maxey saw the tweet and responded, something that is sure to have put a smile on that little boy's face.
"I gotta get lil man a jersey."
Tyrese Maxey was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers and he has repaid their faith by becoming one of the most promising young players in the NBA. Seeing how connected he is to the community, surely the Sixers will think twice before dealing him away. However, players like KD don't become available too often, so there's no telling what might happen still during this offseason.
