The hype for Zion Williamson may have just reached an All-Time high. Despite having never played a single minute of NBA action, not only was Zion ranked amongst the Top 50 on ESPN's Top 100 Players list, but he was ranked above some notable NBA stars.

Perhaps the most notable name being Klay Thompson, a 5x All-Star, 3x NBA Champion, and one of the best shooting guards in the league.

As per annual tradition, the sports media empire ranked the Top 100 players entering the 2019-20 season. Bearing in mind a number of factors, a panel was asked to rank NBA players.

Klay Thompson was ranked 49th, and their explanation does not give a suggestion as to why he was put so low. His recent ACL injury seems the most likely culprit.

As for Zion, it seems ESPN is exceptionally high on the young rookie, as he was placed above Klay, Kevin Love, and DeMar DeRozan among others.

Our NBArank panel placed the No. 1 overall pick of this year's draft 42nd, the highest ever for a first-year player in the nine seasons we've been doing NBArank. That's understandable given that Zion is one of the most promising players to enter the league in recent memory.

It is true that Zion has put on quite a show over the course of his very short career at Duke. He's strong, fast, athletic, works hard, and seems to have his head on straight. On the outside, it seems like the perfect recipe for a budding star.

But to put him above guys who have been All-Stars and Champions? Seems a bit premature, even with all things considered. Nonetheless, ESPN is unlikely to budge on this one.
