5 Players That Could Save The Houston Rockets, James Harden And Chris Paul

Fadeaway World

Fadeaway World

The Houston Rockets didn’t get off to the best start of the season, first with Chris Paul’s suspension and then James Harden getting injured, something that has them sitting at a mediocre 1 – 5 record.

The Rockets were one of the best teams in the world last season and were just one game away of dethroning the Golden State Warriors and make it to the Finals before some choking and poor officiating took a toll on their chances.

Nonetheless, it’s still pretty early in the season and there’s already a lot of things that can change, especially with the kind of talent this team features. Even so, they definitely need to make a trade or two to have another shot at contention. Today, we’ll let you know about 5 players they should trade for.

3-and-D Players

Patrick Beverley

Patrick Beverley already knows what is like to play for the Rockets and he’s one of the best defenders in the world. When healthy, he’s been great for the Clippers, but that team would rather turn to standout rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Beverley could come off the bench and play next to Chris Paul to enhance their defense from time to time and would be a major upgrade over Michael Carter-Williams, and they could get him for a handful of future 2nd Round picks.

Wesley Matthews hasn’t been nearly half as good as he used to be during his Portland Trail Blazers tenure, but he’s shown some glimpses of the guy he used to be back in the day since the start of this campaign.

Now that Trevor Ariza has left the Rockets, they’re definitely missing their 3 and D expertise, and that’s where Matthews could come really handy. In order to get him, a couple of future 2nd Rounders should be more than enough.

Big Man

Nikola Vucevic

Nikola Vucevic has been outstanding to start the season, proving his worth and value as he’s entering a contract year and is likely to demand a lot of money as one of the best scoring big men in the league next summer.

Chris Paul would have a skilled big man in the paint, and the best thing for the Rockets is that Vucevic already made 7 three-pointers (63.6%).

With the Orlando Magic most likely to tank throughout yet another season and with Mo Bamba ready to take the reins as their starting center, Vucevic is a prime trade candidate, and the Rockets could get him for PJ Tucker and a future pick.

Kevin Love

Kevin Love is sidelined with an injury and has absolutely no motivation to rush back to the court with the Cleveland Cavaliers ready to give up on the season following LeBron James’ departure to the Lakers.

Love would be a major upgrade for the Rockets with his ability to pull up from everywhere in the court, let alone his underrated defense, and they could get him for a couple of future picks, PJ Tucker and Eric Gordon.

Jimmy Butler

And, as you may already know, the Houston Rockets are aggressively pursuing a trade to get Jimmy Butler aboard, offering as much as 4 1st round picks and PJ Tucker in order to get a deal done as soon as possible.

Bold as it may seem, the Timberwolves haven’t immediately agreed to this move despite the fact that Butler has decided to just sit out while this situation unveils. It’s a huge asking price, but he could definitely help them save the season.
