The Boston Celtics got off to a sloppy start of the season, going 9 and 7 despite having arguably the most stacked team in the Eastern Conference and entering the season as the main frontrunners to take the league for assault and dethrone the Golden State Warriors.
Boston features a lot of balance between young talents and proven veterans, but still, they haven’t been able to find consistency after being one of the most impressive teams of the last season.
I will not count Anthony Davis, he is the best target for every team right now, but it seems that New Orleans will not trade him at this moment.
Naturally, that has made the fans lose their patience and with the team desperate to make a splash in the playoffs, they’re already asking Danny Ainge to make a move. So, why don’t we take a look at the top 5 players that could actually help the Celtics?
Top 3 Trade Targets
Kemba Walker has been on a roll since the start of the season and with him set to become a free agent, he’s going to be a prime trade candidate for most teams looking for a scorer like the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics could send Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, and a future 2nd rounder in order to land him, and a backcourt with him and Kyrie Irving could definitely light up any defense in the world on a nightly basis.
Kevin Love was handed a huge extension by the Cleveland Cavaliers so making a deal work is going to be tricky, but still, the team is reportedly interested in moving him as soon as he gets back from his injury in order to just tank their way through the season.
Love has already proven that he can either score in bunches or take a step back and embrace a lesser role. Naturally, the Celtics are going to have to offer them a 1st round pick, a 2nd rounder, Smart and Rozier.
The Washington Wizards are one of the worst teams in the NBA right now and they should just break their core up already. Beal and Wall just don’t get along and they can’t move Wall’s mega contract.
So, Beal would be a great fit in Boston even if it’s coming off the bench as their 6th man, but he’s not going to leave the team for a bag of chips. In order to get him, they’re going to have to part ways with a couple of picks, Rozier and Smart.
Veterans And Free Agents
Carmelo Anthony has been once again a team’s scapegoat and with the Houston Rockets struggling, he was informed that his time with the team may be coming to an end sooner than expected.
Also, Kyrie Irving has hinted that the team needs a 14-15 year veteran that could help them be patient and understand is a marathon and not a sprint, perhaps he was talking about Carmelo Anthony?
Joe Johnson is, was and will always be a walking bucket. He’s not going to demand a lot of money or playing time and could easily come off the bench to show he’s still one of the best isolation scorers in the league.
Even so, the Celtics already have 15 men in their roster, so they would have to cut someone in order to make room for him, but if he can score over 12 a night in 15 minutes per game, he’s going to be worth it.
C’mon! How come NBA Champion Swaggy P isn’t signed yet? All jokes aside, Nick Young can shoot the ball, and there are several teams in desperate need of a shooter, the Boston Celtics included.
He was solid in Warriors jersey and he can help the Celtics as well.
Brad Stevens knows how to hide his players’ defensive flaws in a system and Young is one of the streakiest scorers in the league. The Celtics have struggled to put points on the scoreboard all year long, so just give this guy a call already!
