The Los Angeles Lakers are in the prime position to make a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans to secure Anthony Davis. However, the Boston Celtics are throwing everything they can at the Pelicans to get them to wait until the offseason to trade their valuable superstar.
The Celtics are unable to make a move right now due to NBA rules that don’t allow them to until the offseason. Both Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis are designated rookie scale players, and teams are limited to one such player acquired by trade. Boston have plenty of assets to trade so if the Pelicans are willing to hold out into the end of the season then they could receive a very strong deal.
According to the Celtics, nothing is off the table beside Kyrie Irving which isn’t great news for the rest of the team but it would be music to their ears for the Pelicans.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN:
I think Boston has sent a message to the Pelicans: “Be patient. Wait for us. We are going to be in this, and we’re going to be willing to talk about essentially everyone on our roster outside Kyrie Irving.”
Their assets that everyone is talking about and that will be on the table if the Pelicans do decide to hold off trading AD until the end of the season.
Jayson Tatum and Gordon Hayward are two of the biggest assets that the Pelicans may be interested in. The Celtics are truly willing to go all out for this trade which puts a dent into the Lakers chances who are probably the only team that Davis wants to be sent to at this stage.
If the Pelicans do decide to wait until the summer to make a decision, it’s more than likely that we will be seeing Davis in green next season.
