Breaking: Trevor Ariza Has Been Traded To Washington

After much controversy, Trevor Ariza is finally being traded. After a 3 team trade including the Suns, Grizzlies, and Wizards fell through in embarrassing fashion because of a name mix-up, it looks like Phoenix and Washington have finalized a deal by themselves that include Ariza. Phoenix is trading Ariza for Washington’s Austin Rivers and Kelly Oubre Jr.

The trade call is expected to be happening sometime this afternoon, which would make the trade official. The Wizards are getting rid of about 17 million in Oubre and Rivers’ contacts, and they're getting Ariza’s 15 million dollar contract in return. Ariza is on a one year deal and is set to become a UFA.

If he resigns with Washington at the end of the year, it will most likely be closer to a veteran’s minimum because of his poor play this year, unless he turns it around and can prove he still is worth big bucks. As for Oubre and Rivers, Oubre still has another year until his contract is up, and River’s is also set to become a UFA after this year.

Ariza played two seasons with the Wizards between 2012 and 2014. So while not his first run-through in D.C., he'll be going to a completely new Washington squad this time. The duo tandem of John Wall and Bradley Beal have long needed a veteran wing to compliment their game. They hope Ariza can fill that role, and get the franchise back on track.
