NBA Rumors: D'Angelo Russell Is The Perfect Target For The Timberwolves

Another season, the same o,d story for the Minnesota Timberwolves. With a 10-13 record in the West, the Wolves appear to be headed down the path of mediocrity they've taken for the past decade.

The thing is, as Karl-Anthony Towns grows older, the more likely it is that he'll decide he's had enough of the dysfunctional franchise.

So, the stakes are high for Minnesota, even if it may not seem like it on the surface. If they don't make a move to get KAT some help soon, they risk losing their franchise player much in the same way the Pelicans lost Anthony Davis.

Insert young, star point guard D'Angelo Russell into the equation, and it gives Minnesota a clear and obvious answer to their problem. So, the Timberwolves should do everything in their power to acquire him from the Warriors before the 2020 February NBA trade deadline.

Though Minnesota is very much alive in the Western Conference playoff race thanks to Towns and the improved play of Andrew Wiggins, the roster still seems a piece or two away from making any real noise in the Western Conference. To make themselves truly relevant, and ensure KAT sticks around long-term, they need to pursue a star point guard to run the offense, score from the perimeter, and hand the ball to Towns in the post. D'Angelo checks all of those boxes.

With a backcourt rotation of Jeff Teague, Robert Covington, and Shabazz Napier, D'Lo would be a significant upgrade in the position for them.

This season, in Golden State, he's averaging 22 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game on 43% shooting.

Alongside KAT, Russell would thrive. But are the Wolves willing to pay the price of admission? Acquiring a guy like D'Angelo Russell requires serious compensation, the kind that the Wolves have always been hesitant to let go of in the past.
