Kawhi Leonard Trade Update Brings Bad News For The Lakers

With the draft in full swing, free-agency just nine days away, and the awards show quickly creeping up, saying it's a busy time for the NBA would be an understatement.

As we speak, teams are planning and maneuvering ways to make their clubs better. Lucky for them, this summer is not short in its number of available superstars. Kawhi Leonard is among them and has been the talk of the league for weeks.

After making his desires to play for the Lakers public (and his dialogue with Pop in which he told the great coach he wanted out), it seemed all but inevitable that he'd end up in LA. And while that may be true, we might have to wait a year before we see The Klaw wear the purple-and-gold. Because according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers have been shut-out.

As Shelburne mentions, the Lakers actually contacted the Spurs about a potential trade and mentions in a later tweet that the talks never went too far. Basically, San Antonio isn't too keen on sending their franchise star to the franchise #1 on his preferred destination list. Still, it doesn't mean they won't be trading him at all.

Reports around the league are claiming the Spurs are, indeed, taking calls on Kawhi. At the very least, they're listening to offers.

What does this mean?

Well, it means exactly what it sounds like. Kawhi is likey headed East. And if not, it wouldn't be too shocking if he is traded for a lottery pick in the upcoming draft.

As the situation develops, things will only get more interesting from here.
