Lakers Are Still Optimistic About Upgrading Roster After Missing Out On Kyrie Irving

The Los Angeles Lakers still hope to strike big in the trade market before the deadline after missing out on Kyrie Irving.

The Los Angeles Lakers missed out on arguably the best player they could have hoped for this trade deadline with the assets they have after Kyrie Irving got traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

Joe Tsai reportedly was adamantly against sending Irving to the Lakers, so the team probably never stood a realistic chance despite the team nearly matching an incredibly heavy ask from the Nets which saw them give up young players and picks. Everyone is wondering what’s next for LA as the team still needs improvements to be competitive in the West.

The Lakers are still optimistic about their chances to strike a blow in the market and improve their chances for the season.

Despite missing out on Kyrie Irving, Lakers still optimistic they can upgrade roster before trade deadline. The three challenges. Is another star available? The Lakers don’t have many assets. Despite willing to trade picks or young players, they haven’t been willing to do both

If the asking price for the actually valuable assets in LA was a superstar-level player, the Lakers have lost out with Irving. A player of that caliber at this price isn’t going to become available during this window. Hopefully, the Lakers can still try and make something work with Patrick Beverley as their best asset.

What Can The Lakers Do Next?

If the Lakers give up Austin Reaves or any of the picks for a move that doesn’t swing the needle for LA, there’s no point in doing that. The Lakers are better off hoping the Mavericks are willing to sign and trade Kyrie in the summer if their experiment doesn’t work out and Irving is back on the market. The price may be even lower then.

For this season, LA needs to try and get a player like Gary Trent Jr. on their team. It isn’t as flashy as Kyrie but it definitely gives them what they need in terms of a wing who can also shoot. Hopefully, the Lakers find the right move otherwise LeBron James will be extremely upset.
