Russell Westbrook is a hot commodity ever since he voiced his discontent with Oklahoma City Thunder. They are currently fielding calls and trade offers for the superstar point guard. The Miami Heat appears to be one of the teams that have inquired about Mr. Triple Double.
The Heat’s cap situation did not seem much glamorous until Pat Riley became a wizard and landed Jimmy Butler in a sign and trade with Philly. Butler could use a new running mate in the form of an all-around guard. Beastbrook could thrive in the Eastern Conference. OKC is a sinking ship, come to shore Russell.
Trade Package For Russell Westbrook
The Heat Receive: Russell Westbrook
The Thunder Receive: Goran Dragic, Bam Adebayo, Justise Winslow, and a 1st round pick
Why would the Heat do it?
The Miami Heat managed to make themselves relevant again in the East by obtaining Jimmy Butler, but right now the NBA is about duos. The Eastern Conference is open for the taking. The Raptors lost Kawhi and Green. The Sixers are over the cap. The Bucks are likely to regress without Mirotic and Brogdon. Oladipo is slated to miss half the season. The Celtics lost most of their stars. It takes two to tango.
Westbrook and Butler could run the East. Westbrook is arguably the most all-around point guard in the NBA and Butler would be a strong voice in his ear that he needs. Butler and Westbrook each play with an undying passion and a will to win games. The Heat needs to give Jimmy Butler some talent to work around. This is a start.
In my opinion, this move would make Miami an instant contender in the Eastern Conference. Butler has been trying to get out of the second round, while Westbrook has exited the first round in his last three playoff appearances. The Western Conference and Russell Westbrook are not an ideal match.
Why would the Thunder do it?
The Thunder have already begun an evident rebuild. They traded Paul George to the Clippers and Jerami Grant to the Nuggets. Everyone on their existing core has pretty much been dangled in trade talks. Sam Presti would love the chance to salvage this franchise on young assets and picks.
This trade includes the expiring contract of Goran Dragic. A veteran guard who can help bring Shai-Gilgeous Alexander along. A promising defensive big man in Adebayo who fits the Thunder’s up-tempo style. Also, Justise Winslow who adds a defensive identity and a point forward to the Thunder’s nucleus of talent.
A starting 5 of Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Dennis Schroder, Terrence Ferguson, Justise Winslow, and Steven Adams. The bench could include names like Dragic, Gallinari, Nerlens Noel, Mike Muscala, and Bam Adebayo. Athletes like Darius Bazley and Hamidou Diallo add much intrigue. A new direction is what the Thunder need. Fans need a light at the end of this dark tunnel.
