With the San Antonio Spurs in limbo, the availability of their stars remains a big mystery ahead of December. And, according to HoopsHype, the Raptors could be in play for one of them...
Other teams mentioned by league execs as theoretical landing spots for DeRozan include the Houston Rockets, the Detroit Pistons and even… his former team.
“It sounds crazy, but Toronto actually makes a lot of sense as a landing spot for DeRozan,” another Western Conference executive said. “As far as what Toronto would have to give up, it would probably have to be a first-round pick plus Serge Ibaka or Marc Gasol.”
When DeRozan was initially traded from the Raptors in 2018, nobody thought it'd leave open a future return.
With Kawhi Leonard gone, however, and the team still expected to make the playoffs, the Raptors have emerged as contenders for him ahead of February's trade deadline. With Lowry, Siakam, and Gasol, adding a bonafide scorer in DeMar would help them compete for a second-consecutive Eastern Conference title.
The question is, do the Raptors have enough to get him? A guy like DeMar wouldn't come cheap, and the Raptors would have to give up several important pieces of their core. It will be interesting to see where DeRozan ends up by the end of the year.
