Lonzo Ball has been a disappointment since he has entered the league and it looks as if his time with the Pelicans will be coming to an end soon. Lonzo Ball was the 2nd overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and has not been good.
Coming out of college, Ball was a highly touted prospect due to his elite playmaking abilities and his defensive potential. With his height and playstyle, a lot of people had compared him to Jason Kidd. What made things worse was that Lonzo’s father, LaVar Ball, said some preposterous things about him which increased expectations.
Lonzo has dealt with injuries and consistency issues since he has been drafted and it seems as if he is what he is at this point. With the Pelicans tanking and Lonzo due for an extension soon, there have been some rumblings around the league that the Pelicans are looking to move on from him. With that being said, here are three teams that should look to trade for him.
New York Knicks
The New York Knicks are struggling at the point guard position and Lonzo could be a good addition to that group. The Knicks had an interesting offseason. After aspirations of signing Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, they ended up with Julius Randle and Marcus Morris. The Knicks are a rebuilding team and could look to pick up a young guard in Lonzo while his trade value is low.
A potential trade would be Frank Ntilikina and Reggie Bullock in exchange for Lonzo Ball.
For the Pelicans, you are getting a defensive-minded guard in Ntilikina and another trade asset in Bullock.
For the Knicks, Ball could become the point guard of the future for your team. Lonzo is playing in an offense that does not play to his strengths and with a Knicks, they could give him more on-ball opportunities to showcase his talents. Also, Lonzo is another player that could grow with R.J. Barrett, Kevin Knox, and Mitchell Robinson.
The Wolves are in the market for a point guard and Lonzo could be the perfect addition. The Minnesota Timberwolves started the season off as a team destined to make the playoffs but, things have gone south. Since their 7-4 start, they have gone 3-15 and are currently in the midst of an 11-game losing streak. If the Wolves want to get out of this funk, they must make a trade.
A potential trade would be Lonzo Ball for Jarrett Culver and a future 2nd round pick.
For the Pelicans, you would be getting a younger player in Jarrett Culver who has potential and a 2nd round pick that can be used to get an impactful player.
For the Wolves, Lonzo Ball would be the facilitator that you have been looking for. The pick-and-roll/pick-and-pop between Lonzo and Karl-Anthony Towns would be deadly for many years to come. Ball should also be able to improve the defense on this team and help to change the culture.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers need help and Lonzo could be the player to save their season. The Portland Trail Blazers have been off to a rough start. At the beginning of the season, the Blazers were playing like a lottery team. Since they have added Carmelo Anthony, they have performed better but, they still are not performing at the level that many have expected them to.
A potential trade would be Anfernee Simons and multiple 2nd round picks in exchange for Lonzo Ball.
For the Pelicans, Simons has the potential to be something special for you. His scoring abilities could lead to him becoming an amazing sixth man or a starter on your team.
For the Blazers, Lonzo would do well leading the 2nd unit. Off the bench, Lonzo could run the offense without anyone taking the ball out of his hands. Also, playing for a playoff-contending team could improve his confidence and performance.
