NBA Rumors: 5 Most Realistic Trade Destinations For Kawhi Leonard

Fadeaway World

Fadeaway World

The rumors appear to be true: Kawhi Leonard wants out of San Antonio and won’t be with them for the upcoming season, so let’s get ready to see every other single team in the league make a run at him.

He’s still under contract so a move anywhere will have to come upon the Spurs approval, and the one that eventually gets him will have to be the one that offers the best deal for the Texan franchise.

Naturally, he’ll be linked with contenders and the very same teams he’s been closely tied to for months, but what if a dark horse quietly emerges as a contender?

Today, we’ll let you know about the top destinations for Kawhi Leonard.

5. Los Angeles Clippers

According to reports, Kawhi Leonard has Los Angeles at the top of his destinations list, but it doesn’t clarify whether he’s talking about the Lakers or the Clippers, and being a California native, he would thrive with the possibility of playing for either of them.

He wouldn’t play for a Championship contender right away but would put Ballmer’s team on a position to sign prime free agents, and bringing the first NBA title to a franchise that’s been used to being the league’s laughing stock would really make him a legend.

Trade Package: Tobias Harris, 12th and 13th pick

4. Cleveland Cavaliers

If LeBron James decides to stay put at the Land, the team can put together a really nice offer for the Klaw, sending away Kevin Love and their 8th overall pick to the Spurs to get Leonard and stay at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Perhaps this wouldn’t suit Kawhi’s desires as he’s likely to be headed for a bigger market than Cleveland, but having a Leonard-James 1-2 punch would really make them one of the scariest teams ever.

Trade Package: Kevin Love, Cedi Osman and 8th pick

3. Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadephia 76ers really came through this season and shocked the world as perhaps the most improved squad we’ve ever seen upon Ben Simmons rookie season, even making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Philly looks like a dynasty in the making but they lacked the kind of playoff experience Leonard already has, so landing him would really boost their chances of winning a title, and they’re the best destination for him to contend right away.

Trade Package: Dario Saric, Robert Covington, Markelle Fultz and 10th pick

2. Los Angeles Lakers

And the Los Angeles Lakers look like Kawhi’s prime destination, as he’d be on a position to compete on a year on two, would play on his desired town and would also make the biggest franchise on the Western Conference great again.

The Lakers are one of the most lucrative markets in the world and landing Kawhi would make it really easier for the team to also make a run at LeBron James and Paul George, creating a superteam that could finally dethrone the Warriors.

Trade Package: Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and future 1st round pick

1. Boston Celtics

Boston may be the ideal team for San Antonio to trade with as the Celtics have plenty of tantalizing options that could be used for the Leonard trade. Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier are examples of potential players that the Spurs may be interested in if the Celtics assumingly aren’t willing to consider trading Jayson Tatum or Gordon Hayward.

Trade Package: Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier, Marcus Smart (sign and trade) and future 1st round pick

Let be honest, the Celtics can send probably the best trade package for Kawhi Leonard and According to Chris Sheridan, there’s a “zero” percent chance Pop and the Spurs trade him to a Western team.
