The deadline came and went, and Anthony Davis still finds himself a Pelican.
It seems the team is gearing up for a deal with Boston and, despite multiple reports about their talks with the Lakers, it seems they were never intent on trading him at the deadline anyway.
It doesn’t mean things didn’t get really interesting though. Because, in a report The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, there were conversations about a swap that would have changed the balance of power in the NBA.
"That's why I was so intrigued by the Ben Simmons for Davis (scenario)," said Bill Simmons. "By the way, I heard there were conversations on both sides with that."
It’s not understood at this time why the deal never went through. It’s likely that New Orleans was just asking for more than Philly was willing to give. Also, since the Sixers weren’t on Davis’ list of preferred teams, they were probably hesitant in making a trade for him when he could leave next summer.
Nevertheless, the fact that both sides even talked shows how good Anthony Davis is. Ben Simmons is one of those once-in-a-generation types of young players, so if the 76ers are willing to give him up for a guy like Davis, there’s no disputing how valuable he must be.
