NBA Rumors: Celtics Have Had Trade Talks With Timberwolves About Malik Beasley

Malik Beasley Channels His Inner Steph Curry With Crazy Record-Breaking Shooting Performance

Malik Beasley is a very solid shooting guard, who is currently the 6th man for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Beasly is known as a shot creator who can heat up from beyond the arc. He has had an inconsistent year this year. However, during the 2020-21 season, Malik Beasley averaged 19.6 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 2.4 APG, while shooting 39.9% from beyond the arc.

There is no doubt that Malik Beasley would be an interesting "buy-low" candidate for a lot of teams due to his offensive prowess. It seems as though the Boston Celtics could be one of those teams.

Jared Weiss of The Athletic has recently revealed that the Boston Celtics explored a trade that would let them acquire Malik Beasley. They would have to send out Josh Richardson and either Romeo Langford or Aaron Nesmith. However, it seems as though the Timberwolves were "not interested at the time" as they wanted to "maintain flexibility for bigger moves" prior to the trade deadline.

Boston explored a deal that would send Josh Richardson and one of either Romeo Langford and Aaron Nesmith to Minnesota for Malik Beasley, but Minnesota was not interested at the time as they sought to maintain flexibility for bigger moves at the deadline, sources told both myself and The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski.

It is easy to see why the Boston Celtics would want someone like Malik Beasley. Assuming he reverted to the form he had last season, he'd be a solid third option behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. With that being said, it makes sense that the Timberwolves would hold off on trading Beasley, as he could definitely be a valuable trade piece for a difference-making player at the deadline. The Timberwolves were notably trying to trade for Ben Simmons earlier in the season, though there have been no recent reports suggesting those talks are still going.

The Boston Celtics have won 10 of their last 14 games, so perhaps they don't necessarily need to make a trade in order to improve. However, adding a talent like Malik Beasley wouldn't hurt, especially with the reported trade framework. Perhaps we'll see them find a way to get him in the future.
