The Charlotte Hornets are a team that could use some help getting to the playoffs. They are hovering close to a .500 record and could use a player that could push them over the top. The Charlotte Hornets have a solid roster, but they need more star power to compete with other teams in the Eastern Conference.
Kristaps Porzingis is a player that the Charlotte Hornets could target. Kristaps Porzingis is a great big man who could fit in well with the rest of the Charlotte Hornets' roster. The Dallas Mavericks wouldn't give up Porzingis easily though, as he is a young player who is about to enter his prime. The Charlotte Hornets would have to offer a fairly big package to land Porzingis. Here is what the package could look like.
Charlotte Hornets Receive: Kristaps Porzingis
Dallas Mavericks Receive: P. J. Washington, Malik Monk, Cody Zeller, a future first-round pick, a future second-round pick
Dallas Mavericks Gain Solid Young Talent
The Dallas Mavericks could use a shake-up to the roster. Kristaps Porzingis is a good player. However, it is clear that a duo of him and Doncic isn't beating the best teams in the Western Conference, as the Mavericks are 15-15, and have visibly struggled on the offensive end of the ball at times. Trading Kristaps Porzingis for some younger talent to develop alongside Luka Doncic could be a good move, especially with the pieces that the Charlotte Hornets would send out to get Porzingis.
Malik Monk is a microwave scorer who hasn't gotten the developmental minutes that he deserves on the Hornets until fairly recently, as their guard rotation is fairly crowded. He recently scored 20 points off the bench against the Utah Jazz and is averaging 10.9 PPG while shooting 46.9% from beyond the arc. The Dallas Mavericks could give Malik Monk a chance to shine, and Luka Doncic's playmaking would certainly make things easier for him. P. J. Washington is an athletic power forward who can finish well at the rim and space the floor. An athletic finisher would also be good for a passer like Doncic, as we've seen many elite passers make use of an aerial lob threat. Cody Zeller is an expiring contract who would be put into the deal to match salary, while the two picks are clearly assets for the future. Overall, it is a solid package for a young star.
Charlotte Hornets Gain Another Star
Kristaps Porzingis is a unicorn who can do just about anything on the basketball court. He has the size to match up with the big centers like Joel Embiid on the defensive end. On offense, Porzingis can bully smaller defenders but also shoot extremely well from the perimeter. Porzingis is also an able off-ball player, repositioning himself often to get the best shot possible. Kristaps Porzingis could be the perfect player to run next to a ball-dominant point guard like LaMelo Ball. Porzingis is a center that is a clear upgrade on either center on the Charlotte roster. Kristaps Porzingis is a three-level scorer that has the size to score on any defender.
Kristaps Porzingis going to the Charlotte Hornets would give them a solid core for the future, while also being able to help with competing in the playoffs immediately. Adding Kristaps Porzingis to an already solid team with LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward, and Terry Rozier would give them a team that can compete with anyone in the Eastern Conference. They would have the star power and the versatility to be able to beat just about anyone. While the Hornets could still falter this season with a Porzingis trade, they would be set with elite players for a while.
