NBA Rumors: Insiders Propose Deal That Could Send DeMar DeRozan To The Mavericks

In 34 games he played this season, DeMar DeRozan is averaging 23.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.3 assists on 47.9 percent shooting from the field.

Despite his good play, however, the Spurs remain a mediocre team. With an 18-16 record for the season, and a 9th place standing in the West, it's clear that this Spurs team is not a Championship contender.

Is it time for them to start over? One NBA insider thinks so, and recently proposed a deal that has made headlines of late.

“Meanwhile, Dallas continues to make others look foolish for not swinging for Luka Doncic in the draft. The Slovenian product has harnessed the hype, and the Mavs are unexpectedly frisky for the playoffs. As a proven scorer, DeRozan can take some of the attention off the rookie and turn a ‘just happy to be here’ playoff hopeful into a postseason rabble-rouser.”

A DeRozan/Smith Jr. swap makes sense for both sides. Dallas has found its star in Luka Doncic, meaning they need to start making moves to improve the team now. The Spurs, on the other hand, are finding themselves trapped in a medium state, being just good enough to stay out of the lottery, not bad enough to have a serious chance at missing the playoffs.

A DeRozan/Smith Jr. swap would help both sides begin their next chapter.
