With the New York Knicks sniffing playoff contention, team President Leon Rose is ensuring they do everything they can to build on their newfound success.

According to a report by The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Knickerbockers are in talks to acquire fan-favorite point guard, Derrick Rose, from the Pistons.

The Derrick Rose era in Detroit is nearing a resolution, as the two sides are working to sort out his future.

The New York Knicks are engaged in active talks to acquire the Pistons guard, a move that would reunite the former league MVP with head coach Tom Thibodeau, sources tell The Athletic.

In a follow-up report, Yahoo! Sports' Vince Goodwill confirmed they are "close" to securing a deal.

Rose, 32, is far from the player he used to be with the Bulls. After several injuries derailed his career, his durability and athleticism have seen a sharp decline.

Still, the 3x All-Star is still capable of putting up solid numbers. This season, he's averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 assists, and 1.9 rebounds on 42.9% shooting. His ball-handling and finishing ability still make him a quality point guard, and one that could make a positive impact for the Knicks, who are a surprising 11-13 this season.

Nevertheless, we'll have to see if New York is willing to part with enough of their assets to get the deal done. So far, the odds are looking good.
