The Los Angeles Lakers were fortunate to land 4th in this year's NBA Draft lottery. And while most teams would be hard at work scouting prospects to pick at that spot, the Lakers are hard at work finding a trade to send it away.
This past season was a nightmare for L.A. and among other things, it proved that LeBron James just does not play well with young guys. Moreover, thanks to the dysfunction going on behind the scenes, their best bet at landing a star is via trade.
It is why their selection at number 4 was only really ever going to be used as a trade chip.
According to a subscriber-only report from ESPN (via Sporting News), the Lakers are currently “active in trade talks” involving the No. 4 pick in this year’s draft, as the team is looking for an “established veteran who would be more ready” to help them improve on the 37-45 record they posted in the 2018-19 season.
Because this draft is considered to be only three players deep, that pick alone is not going to land a star. But alongside Kuzma, Ingram, Ball, or Hart, it might be enough to land some big names (hello Anthony Davis).
But as the lottery nears, and the Lakers' desperation intensifies, expect a move sometime soon ivolving that number 4 pick.
