It looks as though Jimmy Butler will be playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves when they kick off their season versus the Spurs. The Wolves haven’t managed to find themselves an acceptable deal for both sides to agree on. It will be very interesting to see how Butler plays as well as his teammates given that they all know he won’t be with them much longer.
The question of where Butler will play still remains to be answered. We at Fadeaway World have heavily speculated as to where Butler will go. Miami, the LA Clippers and Houston would all seriously benefit from the two-way skillset Butler has. Sadly for those teams mentioned no offer they made was acceptable to the Wolves front office and Butler is still in Minneapolis.
The owner of the Timberwolves has expressed his desire to see this whole drama come to a close so that his team and organization can move forward instead of being stuck where they are. At the moment the Butler-saga is very distracting for the players, coaches and the fans of the Timberwolves.
What if I told you that there is another team lurking in the shadows that would become if they acquired Butler, an instant threat to knock GSW off their throne? That team is none of than the Oklahoma City Thunder.
In order to beat the Warriors, you need to guard their perimeter stars. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant are all superb offensive talents with any of them capable of going for 50 on a given night. If OKC were to trade for Butler then they would have 3 amazing defensive wing players that are more than capable of frustrating the Warriors on offense and giving them a stern challenge on defense.
Imagine the heart and hustle that Westbrook, George and Butler would show on defense. They would force so many steals and they are all amazing athletes meaning the Thunder could get out and run like nobody’s business. They are all right in their primes as well meaning they are at the top of their game and they would know that now is their time to shine.
OKC also have Steven Adams who is a real bruiser inside and is more than capable of providing a challenge to DeMarcus Cousins when he returns for the Warriors. If OKC could get Butler then they would instantly become a top 3 team in the Western Conference, the question is how do they get him?
OKC knows that Minnesota are not in the best position to bargain with given that Butler really wants to leave. They won’t give him away for next to anything though so OKC will need to give up some good assets in return. Obviously, Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Steven Adams are safe but everyone else should be in the mix.
Trade Package For Jimmy Butler
The Thunder need to take a gamble; they aren’t going to win anything with just Westbrook and George. They need to win now whilst they are all in their prime. Trading Andre Roberson, Jerami Grant, Terrance Ferguson, Timothe Luwawu and the future 1st round pick would provide Minnesota with enough quality pieces to entice them into giving up Butler.
The Wolves are very young and so don’t need to win now. They can give it one more year to let Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns develop, capitalize on another high selection in the NBA draft then launch themselves in the 2019-20 season.
The deal I’ve just mentioned should be more than enough to give both sides what they want and end this facade so both teams can move on a focus on the upcoming season.
