NBA Trade Rumors: Top 5 Best Destinations For DeMar DeRozan
DeRozan is one of the top scorers in the league at the wing position, even though he does come with some flaws. He can be very effective as a scoring option for a team that is contending, or even a team that needs some star power and scoring.
What makes DeRozan particularly special is his athleticism and ability around the rim. He has mastered the mid-range shot and has a nice fadeaway jumper that he can pull on smaller defenders.
So far this season, DeRozan has not been able to perform well enough for the Spurs to keep them in a playoff spot. For the first time in many years, the Spurs look destined to miss the playoffs. DeRozan might want a change, and the Spurs might be willing to move on.
Here are the best trade packages for DeMar DeRozan.
Detroit Pistons
Trade Package: Reggie Jackson, Luke Kennard, Thon Maker, and future 1st round and 2nd round pick
The Pistons are another team that is falling down the seedings, and certainly, need to make a change in order to convince Andre Drummond to stay and keep Blake Griffin happy. With those two bigs, they are crying for a third star to help them push for a top-four or five seed in the East. Once in the playoffs, anything can happen.
DeRozan and Griffin can provide athleticism and scoring, while Drummond rebounds and defends the rim. Whatever the Pistons can throw around them will work, and buys them more time in the future. The Spurs would receive a nice shooting guard in Kennard who has tons of potential, along with young big man Thon Maker and a pick. This helps their rebuild tremendously.
Orlando Magic
Trade Package: Aaron Gordon and Mohamed Bamba for DeMar DeRozan and Bryn Forbes
For the Magic, they have been in need of a star wing player for a long time now. DeRozan has always looked like a Magic player, and it might be time to make it happen. DeRozan and Vucevic are a nice pairing and it might make them relevant in the East. Giving up Gordon and Bamba hurts, but they have enough depth at those positions.
For the Spurs, Gordon and Bamba are nice young players who need a strong system to develop in. Gordon provides scoring and athleticism at the forward spots while Bamba can be their center for the future. The Spurs will find it hard to find a better deal.
Charlotte Hornets
Trade Package: Marvin Williams, Malik Monk, PJ Washington, and a 1st round pick (protected 1-15) for DeMar DeRozan
The Hornets would like to add DeRozan to Rozier, as that is a feisty pairing with lots of defensive potentials. Not to mention, both players can score the ball and would give Charlotte some firepower on that end together. They would not have to give up too much, and they would add another star to help rebuild their team after losing Kemba Walker.
For the Spurs, Malik Monk is a player that will be highly valued by them since he has explosive athleticism and can score. Monk has a nice game from range and is improving at creating his own shot. Washington is another nice player to add while Williams is on an expiring contract.
Toronto Raptors
Trade Package: Serge Ibaka, Norman Powell, and a 1st round pick for DeMar DeRozan
This is quite an unreasonable move, but it might happen if the Raptors want DeRozan back. The Spurs, also, might be wanting to do right by him and trade him back to his original team.
Adding DeRozan would make the Raptors a better team since his scoring fits well next to rising star Pascal Siakam and the efficiency of Marc Gasol. He would make them more effective on offense, and also give fans something to be excited about yet again.
The Spurs might want to move DeMar to his original team, and also receive defensive big man Serge Ibaka and Norman Powell. The first-round pick might sweeten the deal but this is unlikely to happen.
New York Knicks
Trade Package: Kevin Knox, Frank Ntilikina, Wayne Ellington, Taj Gibson for DeMar DeRozan and Lonnie Walker
Adding DeRozan would be a no-brainer for the Knicks, who need star power and scoring desperately. They would be willing to give up anyone if their young core (excluding invaluable including Barrett) to add DeRozan with Randle. Not to mention, he will have the player option next summer, so New York can create a strong team in preparation for the 2021 free agency that includes The Greek Freak.
The Spurs might want to take a chance on Knox and Ntilikina who still have plenty of unfound potentials. Knox still has plenty of room to develop his overall game while the young point guard must improve his floor leadership skills and shooting. They still have a lot of promise for a possibly rebuilding Spurs team.
