NBA Trade Rumors: 5 Best Destinations For JR Smith

Fadeaway World

Fadeaway World

The controversial JR Smith has made the headlines once again for the wrong reasons, as the shooting guards told the media that was expecting to be traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers a couple of days ago.

Smith is still in pretty good shape despite his age and his never-ending antics, so he could actually be valuable for some teams that are brave enough to take a gamble on the former Knick and Nugget.

He’s fallen out of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ rotation with the team keen to go younger, so, naturally, he feels like he can still contribute elsewhere.

Today, we’ll discuss some of the best trade packages the Cavs could get for him.

5. Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have looked pretty good to start the season and Luka Doncic already looks like a major stud, but that has made guys like Dennis Smith Jr and Wesley Matthews to struggle and learn that they’re not the best players on those teams anymore.

Dallas is determined to get back to the playoffs even with their young team and even though we don’t think they have what it takes to pull it off right away, a trade involving 2nd round pick would be great for them, because Wesley Matthews will be a free agent next summer.

4. Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls shouldn’t be interested in trading for veteran players but truth to be told, they could actually make the most of this situation by taking his deal in order to pile up one or two 2nd round picks.

They could trade away Robin Lopez, who’s set to become a free agent and isn’t a part of the team’s rotation, and then eventually trade JR Smith before the start of free agency next season, while he could help this team off the bench right away.

3. Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards have been one of the worst teams in the league ever since the start of the season, and they definitely could use more scoring off the bench, and Smith’s 3 and D skills could really come handy.

Also, they desperately need to part ways with Ian Mahinmi’s contract right now, especially with Dwight Howard there. So, all they need to do is pretty much trade the French big man for JR Smith and that’s it.

2. Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies have few reasons to look forward to this season, but one of the situations they definitely need to address the most if Chandler Parsons’ terrible contract before discussing a buyout.

So, if the Cavaliers are willing to take Parson’s contract, they could also solve some problems of their own while sending JR Smith and Kyle Korver to Memphis. Also, the Grizzlies are one of the worst teams from three this season, and those guys should definitely help in that regard.

1. New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans already have a solid shooter in Nikola Mirotic and they may the most of their offense from their strong frontcourt, but they could definitely use some scoring off the bench.

According to Greg Swartz of the Bleacher Report, JR Smith will be an upgrade over Solomon Hill.

JR Smith could be a solid pickup for them for a very low cost, as all they had to do is send Solomon Hill’s contract along with a 2019 2nd round pick to the Cavs. They clear a lot of cap space and have another pick for their rebuilding process.
