Rumors continue to swirl around Warriors star point guard, D'Angelo Russell. In light of their abysmal start to the season, the future of Russell's tenure with the Dubs has been shrouded in doubt.
Among numerous suggested trades, Zach Frydenlund of Complex wrote about a deal involving Russell and the Bulls for Otto Porter Jr.
“Before you freak out about the ‘value’ exchange on this one, remember that that the Warriors already have the top tier talent in Steph, Klay, and Draymond. They need to add better fitting pieces and Otto Porter would be a perfect fit as a 3 and D guy for them. The Warriors would also get a pick in this deal, which they need after giving up two first-rounders in the KD and Iggy trades. On the Bulls side, they get a proven all-star guard to add to their offense.”
The key to the Warriors' future success may not lie in getting the best players, but getting the best fitting players. As Frydenlund points out, the core of Steph, Klay, and Draymond is more than enough to compete in the West. The absence of Kevin Durant left a hole on the wing that a guy like Porter would fill without disrupting the production of the main three stars.
No doubt, the Warriors will give it more time before striking a deal. But if things continue to spiral downwards, we could see them consider a deal before this season's trade deadline comes to an end.
