NBA Trade Rumors: Chicago Bulls will trade Rajon Rondo

Rajon Rondo, once regarded as one of the elite point guards in the League, is now at the ripe age of 30 years old and people seem to think that he is now past his best years and is on the decline.

Rondo has been in okay form this year averaging 7.6 ppg, 7.1 apg and 6.6 rpg but the problem here is that the Bulls want more of a scoring point guard and sadly Rondo isn’t that kind of guy. Rondo has never been known for his scoring ability, he’s been more of a pass-first point guard who sets up his teammates. Rondo is currently 10th in the League Leaders table in assists per game.

The Bulls are currently 7th in the East with a 15W-16L record but not everybody is happy with this. The Bulls were set to be contending for a top seed in the East before the season started but so far they’ve been a lot worse than expected and fans aren’t happy, booing at the team in recent games.

Trade talks of Rondo leaving the ‘Windy City’ have emerged in the past few days but the question is where will Rondo go? In the next few paragraphs, I’ll explain some teams that would be happy to acquire Rondo.

Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers are a young team with a bright future ahead of them, but at the minute the 76ers are not going to be contending for the playoffs and they’ll most likely end up in the 14th or 15th spot in the East. They need a veteran player to come in and teach the young guys how it’s done. Rondo has won an NBA Championship in 2008 with the Celtics. Even though he’s still a decent age he could go to Philly and teach the young guys some things. He would pair up well with the likes of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons (when he makes his return from injury).

This could work both ways though, as the 76ers could offer up power forward/center Nerlens Noel to the Bulls, who has already been linked with Chicago in past trade talks.

This is a trade we definitely could see happen in the future.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves currently have Ricky Rubio running the point guard position but a trade to bring Rondo in could benefit the team greatly.

Rondo could mentor the likes of Kris Dunn and Zach LaVine while putting up some decent stats for Minnesota and providing good passes to future All-Star center, Karl-Anthony Towns.

Rubio, on the other hand, could become more of a scorer for Chicago if he were to go there. Rubio is currently averaging only 7 ppg for Minnesota but maybe the Bulls would be a better fit for the Spaniard.

This trade is a possibility but there would have to be other factors put into the equation to sweeten the deal for the Timberwolves.

Miami Heat

The last option I’m going to talk about in this article is the possibility of Rondo going to the Heat.

Currently, Goran Dragic starts at the point guard role for Miami but the only other point guard on the team is Tyler Johnson.

There could be a straight swap in that trade with Rondo going to Miami while Dragic goes to Chicago. Rondo is a four-time NBA All-Star and could pair up well with a dominant center, Hassan Whiteside.

Rondo could also work to bring on some of the younger players on the team like Tyler Johnson. This trade could really work out and with Dragic averaging 19.3 ppg he could be the scoring point guard that the Chicago Bulls desperately need.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Rondo.

The likelihood of the situation is that we will see Rondo leaving Chicago before the trade deadline. The question is though, what team will we see Rondo be traded to? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
