According to multiple sources, Jimmy Butler could but out of Minnesota in the next few days. It is public knowledge that Butler isn’t happy with the direction of the Timberwolves and he wants to play for a true contender.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski talks between Minnesota and Miami are ongoing but there is no imminent deal today. It looks like there’s roughly a 90% chance that Butler could be going to the Heat. Miami is always an attractive destination thanks to the weather and it is a superbly run franchise. Butler is also good friends with Dwyane Wade.
According to ESPN:
Minnesota's preferences in a Miami deal have included center Bam Adebayo, guard Josh Richardson and a protected 2019 first-round pick, league sources said. A trade could take on a larger construction to include more players, league sources said.
In any Butler deal, Minnesota has wanted to unload center Gorgui Dieng and the $48 million left on his contract.
But, Miami Heat is not the only team that can get Jimmy Butler.
The other possibility is the Clippers. Here’s a picture of Clippers President Lawrence Frank talking with the GM of the Timberwolves Scott Layden. A deal with the Clippers would likely include Tobias Harris (or Marcin Gortat) plus 1 or 2 rookies to even out the contracts.
According to ESPN, the Minnesota front-office has told interested teams that they don’t have an offer which is good enough for them if they are to meet Butler’s demand for a trade. They are going to hold onto him until the right deal emerges.
Miami is his preferred destinations but has also expressed interest in a few teams that can offer him a max contract as he will leave the Wolves next July.
