NBA Rumors: Lakers Could Acquire Dennis Schroder

On Sunday, Fansided‘s Lake Show Life suggested five possible trade targets at point guard for the Lakers, including OKC Thunder guard Dennis Schroder.

With a lack of depth in the backcourt, L.A. might find value in acquiring a talented scoring guard like Schroder -- for the right price, of course.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will unquestionably be one of the biggest sellers at the trade deadline with several players on the block such as Steven Adams, Danilo Gallinari, Chris Paul (if a team can somehow take his massive contract), and Dennis Schröder, who is the top point guard the Lakers should trade for.

Schröder’s $15.5 million contract could be difficult for the Lakers to find matching salary for, but luckily there is a deal here that can be made. The Lakers can match Schröder’s salary by sending out a trio of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Jared Dudley, and rookie Talen Horton-Tucker, all of whom make a combined $10.6 million, falling just within the accepted matching salary rule.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is struggling with the Lakers so far, averaging just a little over 6 points per game on 42% shooting.

If the Lakers can flip him for a guy like Dennis Schroder (a consistent presence in the Sixth Man of the Year conversation), they might benefit greatly against their competitors in the West.

As the season progresses, expect the Lakers to be increasingly active in acquiring some backup.
