D'Angelo Russell was named an All-Star this week for the first time in his young NBA career. With season averages of 19.6 points per game, 6.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, nobody would say it wasn't well deserved.
He's quickly proving his worth in the league. And while the Nets must be happy to finally have themselves a truly talented young All-Star, D'Lo's sudden spike in value could make him the perfect trade chip.
In a report by Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, the Nets are giving it some thought.
“Brooklyn Nets are intrigued by the idea of adding Anthony Davis to their roster. They may have a roster of players to give them the ‘biggest offer’ the Pels have gotten yet. The offer from the Brooklyn Nets to the New Orleans Pelicans would include: Allen Crabbe, D’Angelo Russell, Rodions Kurucs, Jarett Allen, 2019 1st round pick swap, and 2020 Top-2 protected 1st round pick for Anthony Davis and Elfrid Payton.”
The biggest problem for the Nets is obviously Davis' expiring contract. In trading a guy like Russell, the Nets wouldn't have much star power left outside of Anthony Davis... which is exactly the kind of situation the superstar big man is looking to get out of.
Nonetheless, Davis would be their biggest get and well worth the price if he decides he wants to stay. But is it worth giving up your assets again? The Nets know first-hand that giving up the future for a shot at the present is not always a move that pays off.
