NBA Trade Rumors: Wizards Could Trade For Kevin Love

The Washington Wizards are far from the ranks of contenders in the Eastern Conference, but they have a number of different ways to get there.

With John Wall and Bradley Beal on hand, they have several trade chips they could use to begin a rebuilding process. But, if they trade some of their second-tier players for a guy like Kevin Love, they might even be able to compete right away.

“Behind closed doors, though, the Cavs might be overjoyed with this outcome. Love’s remaining four years and $120.4 million have all the makings of an albatross contract. This would erase it from the books with nary a penny of long-term salary coming back. Miles and Ian Mahinmi are both on expiring deals, and Jemerrio Jones’ pact is only partially guaranteed. Washington would probably push to make this selection a second-rounder, but Cleveland would hold out for a first, knowing cap space doesn’t mean much at this stage of its rebuild.”

The suggested deal includes sending Ian Mahinmi, C.J. Miles, Jemerrio Jones, and a top-20 protected 2020 first-round pick to the Cavaliers in exchange for Love. The Wizards instantly improve and will be in the East playoffs, while the Cavs clear the books in return for some nice veteran pieces.

Injuries have always been a concern when it comes to Love and could be part of the reason he is dealt. That will be a concern for the Wizards, for sure. Regardless, they will give some serious consideration into trading for him.
