With Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Brooklyn Nets have a core to compete with anyone. But with elite Eastern teams growing more powerful every season, Finals berth is far from guaranteed for Brooklyn, even with the return of Kevin Durant.
But with a guy like Kevin Love, they could easily be considered among the favorites. According to Frank Urbina of HoopsHype, the sharpshooting big man is reportedly a real target for the Nets this season.
“Another playoff team in need of a power forward, the Brooklyn Nets would also make sense as potential Love suitors. Without an injured Kevin Durant, Brooklyn isn’t expected to compete for a title this season, but acquiring Love would raise their ceiling and put them on the same tier as everyone behind the Milwaukee Bucks in the East. Plus, with Kyrie Irving in the fold and Durant set to return next season, having the modern version of the 2015-16 title-winning Cavaliers, with Durant playing the role of LeBron James, could appeal to the Nets.”
It was with Love, LeBron, and Kyrie that the Cavaliers won the title in 2016, besting the 73-win Warriors in seven games.
Love's rebounding and long-distance shooting was a great fit next to Bron and Kyrie, and it seems likely to hold true with Kyrie and Kevin Durant as well.
Now that the Cavaliers are officially fielding offers for Love, it seems inevitable he will be moving before February's trade deadline. Among the other candidates for his services are the Blazers, Celtics, and Nuggets.
