As the Western Conference latter of power continues to shift, teams are scrambling to keep up. Even with Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and a roster of rough-riders, the Trail Blazers still have plenty of ground to make up if they want to become true contenders next season.

Kevin Love could be the key to taking that next step.

According to Evan Dammarell of Forbes, the Blazers are considering swapping the newly acquired Hassan Whiteside for the All-Star big man in Cleveland.

“On paper, Love pairs alongside Portland’s star tandem of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum much like he would with Westbrook in Oklahoma City. Plus, playing alongside two willing playmakers would only allow Love’s game to flourish further in Portland. While the trio of would be pretty bad defensively, the return of Blazers big man Jusuf Nurkic along with the recent addition of Kent Bazemore should help cover for them. By adding Love, Portland would easily enter next season as a favorite to win the NBA title."

Portland has sought to add star-power to their roster for years. Despite having Lillard, McCollum, and Nurkic, they never seem to get over the hump in the postseason. With Kevin Love's rebounding and shooting abilities, he could help them get further than they've ever been.

But is Whiteside enough to get the job done? Of will the price be higher for the 30-year-old NBA Champion.
