The deal for Jimmy Butler was almost done. It was so close.
So close that, in fact, physicals were exchanged, usually an indicator that the trade is a done deal. according to Jorge Sedano (on Mason and Ireland), however, things just blew up after Thibs called Pat Riley back, asking for more picks in the deal.
They finally relented on Josh Richardson, they were giving up Josh Richardson. I think Dion Waiters was going to be the cap filler. And then a protected first round pick.
The medicals were exchanged, which generally means this is a done deal. And then Thibs called back and wanted more picks. And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a motherbleeper and hung up the phone.
Alas, it was the greediness of Tom that evidently closed shut the doors of this potential trade.
Obviously, since he hasn't been traded to another team yet, there isn't much of a market for him (at least the market the Timberwolves were expecting). And with the season just days away now, this sticky situation has turned into a real problem.
Maybe it's time for Thibedou call Pat back, and apologize for trying to throw a last minute curveball.
