There's A New Player In The Kawhi Leonard Sweepstakes

Kawhi Leonard

Yes, Kawhi Leonard is still a Spur. He probably won't be one for much longer, though.

In recent weeks, a number of teams have picked up steam in the Kahwi race, with the Sixers, Celtics, and both Los Angeles teams reportedly making an offer for the disgruntled star.

So far, none of the teams have been able to make serious ground, as the Spurs remain resistant to letting Kawhi go for cheap.

But could a new team emerge in the race change all that? According to Tim Bontemps, the Toronto Raptors have joined the Leonard sweepstakes, and may be willing to part with one of their two stars to get him:

The Toronto Raptors also generated buzz as a potential destination for Leonard. With LeBron James out of the Eastern Conference, perhaps Raptors President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri is willing to swing for the fences and move DeMar DeRozan or Kyle Lowry in such a deal.

After a franchise-best regular season, the Raptors went into the playoffs soaring until they ran into LeBron James. As per the case every year, they fold when coming face-to-face with The King.

With LeBron gone, however, getting Leonard would bolster their Championship hopes. It's just a matter of what they're willing to give up to get him... especially if he's only a one-year rental.
