3 Realistic And 3 Unrealistic Destinations For Kyrie Irving This Summer

Fadeaway World

Fadeaway World

Kyrie Irving is set to be one of the top prizes of this upcoming free agency, as he has refused to commit with the Boston Celtics beyond this season and may be up for grabs with a lot of teams loaded with cap space.

Even so, having enough money to sign Kyrie doesn’t exactly make a team a realistic destination for his services, considering he’s one of the best players in the world and will favor a team capable of giving him the chance to contend.

Still, you never know what a guy like Kyrie can do, as he’s also one of the most unpredictable players in the league. Averaging 23.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game, there are the top 6 teams that are going to make a run at him, and we’ll let you know about the realistic and unrealistic destinations for him.

Unrealistic Destinations

Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to try and make a run at pretty much every single top-tier free agent in the world, and obviously, that includes Kyrie Irving, who was rumored to be interested in a reunion with LeBron James.

However, Kyrie is not the guy the Lakers need right now and Kyrie knows it’s going to take a long time before that team can go back to Championship contention, so he’s likely to dismiss them in no time.

Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are on a great position right now. They have some money, they have some young stars, and they have a great organization with a committed owner and a supportive fanbase.

Still, with the team all-in on developing Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, perhaps adding a ball-dominant player isn’t among their top priorities, and Irving wants to be the team’s ultimate star.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers are also going to try and make a run at most top-tier free agents, but their point guard situation is kind of solid right now, and they may favor wings in this upcoming free agency rather than a guy like Irving.

He could still be intrigued by the possibility of playing under Doc Rivers, especially if they wind up getting Kawhi Leonard as expected, but we just don’t see him joining the Clippers, at least for the time being.

Realistic Destinations

Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have enough money to try and make a run at Kyrie, and there was a rumor that he was keen to joining this team with Jimmy Butler to try and create their own super team in the Eastern Conference.

However, it looks like the Nets are D’Angelo Russell’s team right now, so if they decide to resign him (which they definitely should) maybe they’ll give up on their pursuit for Kyrie Irving in the summer.

New York Knicks

The New York Knicks and Kyrie Irving have been closely tied for a couple of months now, and it looks like they’re the most likely destination for Uncle Drew, especially if they also sign Kevin Durant.

Moreover, there have been a lot of questions regarding Kyrie’s ability to handle the tough New York media, with Charles Barkley claiming him and Durant aren’t strong enough to deal with that kind of pressure.

Boston Celtics

While Kyrie has been reluctant to commit with the Celtics over the last couple of months, they’re still arguably their best place for him. He’s finally growing into the leader we expected him to be, and the team is really trending up at the right time.

If they make it to the NBA Finals, or if they manage to land Anthony Davis via trade in the summer, we’d expect Kyrie to think this through and decide to extend his stay at the TD Garden for a very long time.
