Kevin Durant, the Houston Rockets’ veteran superstar, clearly loves indulging in basketball conversations on social media. It is that reputation that even made the burner account controversy seem closer to the truth than just a fake rumor.
But this time, Durant has not taken any cover behind the guise of a burner account when he openly called out NBA media members Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright in response to a meme on the internet.
The 37-year-old saw a post that listed nine of the top members of the NBA media: Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe, Skip Bayless, Nick Wright, Colin Cowherd, Max Kellerman, and Kendrick Perkins.
It asked the users to pick one media member who doesn’t deserve to be on the list. Durant picked on both Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright individually.
“Pack that lame Colin Cowherd up,” wrote Kevin Durant in his first story.
“Basketball would actually move forward if Nick Wright wasn’t involved. Hold up,” wrote Durant in the next story with the same post.
On multiple occasions, Colin Cowherd has taken an anti-Kevin Durant stance publicly. While he acknowledged Durant’s talent, he also recently described him as similar to a high-maintenance boat. Cowherd apparently views Durant as an isolated, wandering artist rather than a franchise cornerstone or leader.
Durant has repeatedly criticized Cowherd for questioning his leadership and decisions, particularly after he joined the Warriors in 2016. He has accused the Fox Sports host of pushing opinions designed to generate controversy rather than fairly analyzing basketball.
Additionally, Nick Wright has also taken a similar stance against Durant, that he’s chasing some fulfillment he may never find, ever since he left the Warriors to join the Nets, and subsequently claimed the media was bullying him.
Wright has frequently ranked Durant below other all-time greats, questioned his ability to lead a championship team without Stephen Curry, and criticized aspects of his career decisions. Durant has responded multiple times on social media, calling out Wright’s takes and accusing him of having a personal bias against him.
Their exchanges have become a recurring storyline, with Durant often defending himself directly while Cowherd and Wright continue to use him as a frequent topic of discussion on their respective shows. It will be interesting to see how these two renowned NBA media voices respond to the shots from Durant today.
