The Lakers were punched in the mouth from the very first quarter tonight, as they ended up losing 96-139 to the Thunder. In the third quarter, they lost Luka Doncic to a left-hamstring injury.
Subsequently, a video was leaked on social media from the sidelines that showed an interaction between Austin Reaves and a Thunder fan when Luka Doncic went down with 7:39 left in the third quarter.
“Now you know what it’s like to play defense,” said a fan from the sidelines when Doncic went down.
“S–t the f–k up,” yelled Reaves in response. “Shut up, he’s f—–g hurt.”
“F–k you,” yelled the Thunder fan to Reaves, who responded with the same energy, “F–k you!”
“Come on, man, that’s some bulls–t, that’s some bulls–t. He’s got hurt, that’s some bulls–t,” said Reaves before yelling “have some f–king respect” several times.

Reaves and Doncic share a brotherly relationship; therefore, it was natural for him to get mad when a fan disrespected Doncic like that. Even LeBron James stood in support of Reaves, who taught the fan a lesson on the sidelines.
While this was a frustrating addition to an exasperating night for the Lakers, this was a positive sign for the team chemistry and showed how intently the Lakers’ big three stand up for one another and treat each other like family.
LeBron James Speaks On The Camaraderie Between The Lakers
LeBron James spoke to the media in the aftermath of the loss and discussed the impact of the game on the team.
“No, nothing has changed. We still will be [together]. Obviously, we’ll be tested with the head of the snake [missing]… But nothing is rattled. It’s one game, it’s part of the NBA season, it’s the defending champions,” said James.
He seemed confident that this loss had not rattled their focus or brought any red flags to the surface. It is just an example of one game where the Lakers were not prepared, and the defending champions made them regret it.
The Lakers have now fallen to 50-27 for the season and have just five games left in the season. Even though this individual game may not have a lot of impact on the big picture, some fans may think it is a glimpse of what a seven-game matchup against the Thunder could look like for the Lakers in the playoffs.
But they do not realize that a seven-game series has plenty of time to make adjustments. And that is why James does not look worried for now.
However, if the doctor’s estimates are correct and Doncic ends up missing an extended period, which includes some time in the playoffs, then I do not see the Lakers going past the first round.
