In one of the landmark trades of this year’s offseason, the Miami Heat packaged Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, and Jaime Jaquez Jr., along with several draft picks, to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. Although the Heat fan base celebrated this move, the departure of a player like Herro is certainly jarring.

As someone who cut his teeth with the Miami Heat and even earned his first All-Star selection with the team, Tyler Herro truly established himself as a household name. Now, with the move to the Milwaukee Bucks becoming official, Herro shared a heartfelt message to the Heat and the team’s fans. He wrote:

“Seven years. It’s hard to put into words what this city has meant to me. When Miami drafted a 19-year-old kid out of Kentucky, they believed in me before I’d proven anything. Together, we experienced just about everything this game has to offer.”

“Two trips to the Finals. Deep playoff runs. Becoming an All-Star. The highest highs, the toughest moments, and every lesson in between. Through every challenge, every expectation, every rumor, and every setback, I always believed in one thing: put your head down, go to work, and represent the name on the front of the jersey the right way.”

“Every time I stepped on the floor, my goal was to help bring another championship to Miami. This city gave me more than a basketball career. It gave me a place to grow up. I became a man here. I became a father here. I built lifelong relationships here. Miami became home.”

“To Spo, Pat, Micky, the entire organization, my teammates, the coaches, trainers, equipment staff, arena staff, and everyone who poured into me over the last seven years – thank you. Thank you for believing in me, pushing me, challenging me, and helping shape the player and person I’ve become.”

“And to the fans… Thank you for riding with me. Through every big shot, every playoff run, every injury, every rumor, and every season – you showed me love I’ll never forget. Whether you cheered for me in the arena, wore my jersey, or simply believed in me, I felt it. I’ll always be grateful for that support.”

“As excited as I am for this next chapter back home in Milwaukee, a part of me will always belong to Miami. Miami didn’t just shape my career. It shaped my life. Thank you for everything. – Tyler,” he concluded.

Herro’s tenure in Miami was marked by some incredible moments.

In his rookie season (2019-20), Tyler Herro generated considerable buzz in the playoffs, positioning himself as one of their key offensive players, notching averages of 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.

Despite experiencing a sophomore slump, Tyler Herro bounced back strong in the 2021-22 season, increasing his scoring production and embracing a larger role in the rotation. With averages of 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game, the guard was also named 6MOY that season.

Following Jimmy Butler’s departure in the 2024-25 season, Tyler Herro asserted himself as a franchise cornerstone next to Bam Adebayo. He flourished while shouldering the scoring burden, posting a career-high 23.9 points to go with 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, earning himself his first All-Star nod.

In light of these developments, Tyler Herro seemed primed to become a perennial All-Star. Unfortunately, recurring injuries restricted his availability to just 33 games in the 2025-26 season. When also factoring in the team’s mediocre performances throughout the campaign, there was little Herro could do to help.

Parting with Herro may have been a difficult choice for the Heat, but acquiring a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo in return is bound to make up for it. Sadly, Herro didn’t see it the same way, as his immediate reaction to the trade was quite jarring.

Still, with the trade finalized, Giannis will gear up to carve out a new legacy in Miami, and Tyler Herro will return home to Wisconsin to do the same.

With reports indicating that Herro will don the No. 42 jersey with the Bucks, Tyler Herro seems geared to begin a new chapter in his professional career. Although Milwaukee isn’t positioned to be a playoff team next season, it will be intriguing to see what the 26-year-old guard can produce when he’s given the keys to the offense.
