NBA Free Agency: Top 5 Best Destinations For Kyrie Irving

Fadeaway World

Fadeaway World

The Kyrie Irving experiment at Boston was a complete failure, to say the least, as the team once again fell short of their goal despite having arguably the most stacked roster in the entire Eastern Conference.

Moreover, it looks like Kyrie was way out of sync with his teammates all year long, and the team even looked better without him through key stretches. Obviously, he wasn’t happy at all at the TD Garden.

So, now that he hasn’t committed to re-signing with the team - assuming they even want him to - and he heads towards free agency, let’s take a look at the top 5 best destinations for him to sign in the summer.

5. Los Angeles Lakers

Kyrie Irving was reportedly interested in a reunion with LeBron James, and the Los Angeles Lakers have enough money to make a run at him. He was going to give them a chance in free agency, but that was way before the Magic Johnson scandal.

Assuming he’s still willing to listen to what they have to say, he could redeem himself by proving he’s really matured and wants to have another shot at playing with LeBron, while the Lakers could look to move Lonzo Ball.

4. Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers have put themselves on a great position entering this summer. They just proved they can compete with anybody, and that they don’t need big name players to be a legit threat.

However, adding a superstar in the summer would definitely make them an instant Championship contender, especially with a coach like Doc Rivers in charge of the team. They have plenty of solid guards, but Irving would still be a major upgrade.

3. Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are going to do whatever it takes to bring Anthony Davis to the TD Garden in the summer. Terry Rozier is likely heading out the door, and bringing Davis means the team also got rid of the youngsters.

That being said, there’s still a chance Kyrie might want to resign with the Celtics, and while that’s a lot of ifs, a starting lineup with Irving, Smart, Hayward, Davis, and Horford, would be able to compete for a Championship.

2. Brooklyn Nets

Kyrie Irving grew up in New Jersey and the Brooklyn Nets are bound to sign, at least, one top-tier free agent in the summer. Irving was rumored to be interested in joining them earlier in the year, as well as Jimmy Butler.

The Nets are thriving with D’Angelo Russell right now so perhaps Kyrie is no longer one of their priorities. But if they try to get him in the summer, they’ll have a huge shot at him, as per the latest rumors.

1. New York Knicks

And finally, the New York Knicks look like Kyrie’s best destination for the summer. This team can offer him a bunch load of money and still have more than enough cap space to sign Kevin Durant as well.

Also, the Knicks are locked in to have a top-5 pick in this upcoming Draft, and if they’re able to get Zion Williamson, it would be a no-brainer for Kyrie to join the team and take his talents to the Big Apple.
