The New Orleans Pelicans were one of the most pleasant surprises of the season, even making it all the way to the second round of the playoffs despite not being favored even to make the postseason to begin with.

As a matter of fact, they were even able to overcome the rough loss of DeMarcus Cousins following his Achilles injury, but naturally, the almighty Golden State Warriors were just too much to handle without Boogie.

Now, they’re facing a key summer for sure, as money’s kind of tight and they’re going to need to clear a lot of cap space by trading Hill, Ajinca and Moore if they want to keep making strides in the league. Today, we’re going to let you know about the top 5 candidates they should pursue during the summer.

4. Veterans

Zach Randolph Kings

This team’s first unit was one of the best in the league by a long shot, but they lacked the true depth that could help the starters carry the load when they need to get a breather or maintain a lead.

So, for that matter, they could offer mid-level or veteran minimum contract to already proven veterans to lead their bench, such as Zach Randolph, Brandan Wright, Jamal Crawford and especially Marco Belinelli, one of the league’s best sharpshooters.

3. Rajon Rondo

Rajon Rondo was actually incredible all season long with the Pelicans, showing signs of his former self and even playing outstanding defense against the Blazers top-tier backcourt in the 1st round of the playoffs.

The Rondo-Holiday experiment worked great as Jrue thrived off the ball while Rondo played his usual pass-first kind of basketball, so retaining the former Champion should be one of the team’s biggest priorities.

2. Paul George

Paul George is set to become the most desired free agent not named LeBron James in this offseason for sure, and the Pelicans shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger and do everything it takes to land PG-13.

George would give them another All-Star that can make a huge impact in both ends of the court as Davis does, while also fixing their longtime woes in the starting small forward position for good.

1. DeMarcus Cousins

If they manage to do all of these moves, landing Cousins would be a walk in the park for Alvin Gentry and his boys, as they already got the best out of Boogie and proved that he can successfully lead this team to the playoffs.

Cousins is expected to sign elsewhere after unfollowing most of the team in social media, but the possibility of a Rondo, Holiday, George, Davis, Cousins lineup would be just too mu itch of a great opportunity not to take it.
