NBA Rumors: Top 5 Perfect Targets For The Boston Celtics This Offseason

The Boston Celtics made the Eastern Conference Finals this season led by budding superstar Jayson Tatum. The Celtics are clearly one of the better teams in the East and have the right pieces to remain title contenders next season and in the future. But do they have enough to get over the hump and win it all?

Jayson Tatum is slowly morphing into a superstar while guys like Kemba Walker are bonafide All-Star talents that can flat out ball. No matter the chatter that is going around about Brad Stevens, he is an excellent coach who clearly understands the game. The Celtics organization is also one of the best there is and they are dedicated to winning. This is why Boston must make some big time moves to finally make an NBA Finals for the first time since 2008.

Here are the five best players that the Boston Celtics can acquire next season to boost their chances of winning an NBA title considerably.

5. Kevin Love

Trade Package: Gordon Hayward, First-Round Pick

Kevin Love has been on the trading block for a few seasons now. He is the type of player that can help a team win now and he is not a suitable player for a rebuilding franchise like the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kevin Love is one of the best shooting power forwards in the NBA and is very versatile with his ability to play the center position. Love averaged 17.6 PPG and 9.8 RPG so he can still put up good numbers.

Boston need some size and rebounding on the inside because they were outmanned by the likes of Bam Adebayo with the Miami Heat this postseason. While the old school big man is no longer relevant in today's game, a player like Kevin Love can space the floor and still rebound at a high level. Gordon Hayward may never make an All-Star Team again so sacrificing the First-Round Pick for Kevin Love might be worth it.

4. Rudy Gobert

Rudy Gobert

Trade Package: Marcus Smart, Daniel This, Robert Williams, Two First-Round Picks

Rudy Gobert is arguably the best defensive big man in the NBA right now. He's 7 ft tall, blocks shots due to his incredible wingspan, and has the intangibles to be a very effective player on both ends of the floor in Boston's system. There are rumblings that Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell are not getting along in Utah, so Boston can swoop in for the All-Star center. It will come at a cost, but Gobert might be worth it.

By pairing lockdown defender Marcus Smart and 2 capable big men in Daniel Theis and Robert Williams, the Celtics might have enough to offer. The key to this deal are the 2 First-Round Picks because Boston have very valuable picks that can result in excellent talent in the draft. The Jazz need to make moves to keep Mitchell happy, so shipping off Gobert for picks and a defensive stalwart like Smart might do the trick.

3. Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons

Trade Package: Jaylen Brown, First-Round Pick

We unfortunately were not able to see Ben Simmons play in the NBA playoffs this season. Without Simmons on the court, the Sixers looked outmatched and were blown out in four games by the Boston Celtics. Ben Simmons is extremely valuable to the Sixers franchise and is still one of the best all-around players in the NBA. He is a bonafide All-Star and would immediately start on any NBA team.

The Celtics should package potential All-Star Jaylen Brown and a valuable first-round pick to grab Ben Simmons from Philly. A trio of Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, and Ben Simmons is one that will certainly challenge for an NBA title next year. Simmons can play lockdown defense, run the show at point guard, and rebound the ball at a high level. Boston must find a way to grab Simmons for the sake of their title chances. Philly is a team that could use the shooting and athleticism that Brown provides immediately.

2. Karl-Anthony Towns

Trade Package: Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Daniel Theis, Two First-Round Picks

While the likes of Ben Simmons makes Boston much better, Towns is on another level. KAT is a 7-foot big man who can dominate the inside and also be the primary scorer on offense. He is an exceptional rebounder and one of the best young players in the NBA. Towns is currently the franchise cornerstone for the Minnesota Timberwolves, although he has not had enough help to make his team relevant just yet.

With the Boston Celtics, KAT will finally begin dominating the postseason with his skillset. A trio of Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker, and Karl- Anthony Towns is easily the best Big Three in the league and certainly in the East. KAT would solidify the Celtics' future and also keep them in the title hunt for the next 5 years at least. Brown, Smart, and 2 picks hurt but KAT is well worth it because Boston does not have a dominant big man on the roster right now.

1. Joel Embiid

Joel Embiid

Trade Package: Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Daniel Theis, Two First-Round Picks

Finally, Joel Embiid is the single best option for the Boston Celtics to win an NBA championship next season. It would be amazing to see Embiid have two quality scorers in Tatum and Walker play alongside him. Embiid is a legitimate All-NBA superstar when healthy, and so is Jayson Tatum. The Celtics will finally have their Big Three that they have been searching forever since they moved Isaiah Thomas for Kyrie Irving in 2017. A lineup with Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Gordon Hayward, and Joel Embiid gives Boston 4 All-Star talents capable of going off any night.

What makes Embiid particularly dominant is his ability on the defensive end. Daniel Theis held his own all season long, but Embiid is on another level. Giving up Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart (especially with 2 valuable picks) is something Boston would rather not do, but Embiid is worth it. Boston cannot settle for simply making the Eastern Conference Finals every year, they must make a move to get over the hump and play in the Finals. Joel Embiid gives the Celtics a superstar big man that might finally put Boston in the Finals.
