Almost the entire state of Pennsylvania rejoiced when LeBron James announced that he is joining the Philadelphia 76ers for what he also cryptically confirmed were the final two seasons of his NBA career. Still capable of contributing at an elite level, LeBron James has elevated the 76ers to true championship contenders, at least for the next two years with this announcement.
Subsequently, Josh Shapiro, the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, officially announced that July 24 will henceforth be deemed ‘LeBron James Day’ in the entire state.
“LEBRON IS COMING TO PHILLY. By the power vested in me as the Governor of the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a die-hard Sixers fan… I hereby proclaim today to be LEBRON JAMES DAY. Welcome to the City of Brotherly Love, KingJames,” wrote Governor Shapiro on X with the official proclamation.

Shapiro was not the only political figure in Pennsylvania who was delighted to see LeBron James join the 76ers. Even Cherelle Parker, the Mayor of Philadelphia, took to social media after the blockbuster news dropped.

While a strong Knicks fan like President Donald Trump may not approve of this move by LeBron James to join their rivals, the political figures in the State and Local Government fully back this move, which could redefine the franchise’s history.
Entering his 24th year in the NBA, LeBron James has signed a two-year, $8 million contract to close out what seems like the final two years of his career. Even in his announcement, James called this his ‘last decision.’
In 2025-26, LeBron James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 51.5% from the field and 31.7% from behind the three-point line. This shows he can still significantly swing the 76ers’ championship chances by taking over whenever necessary.
