According to the San Antonio Express-News’ Tom Osborn, seven of Wembanyama’s teammates flew across the Atlantic to join the superstar big man in Paris for offseason workouts. Interestingly, this contingent also featured the Spurs’ newest addition, Tobias Harris, who already appears to be making a positive impression on the team.
“The Spurs on Tuesday posted a photo on their official X account of Wembanyama alongside Harris and six players who helped the Spurs win the 2025 Western Conference championship: Harrison Barnes, Carter Bryant, Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, and Jordan McLaughlin,” wrote Osborn, identifying the players who attended the workout.

San Antonio’s chemistry-building exercise seems to be going smoothly, and Victor Wembanyama’s leadership could be the reason why. Spurs CEO R.C. Buford touched on this briefly last week, as Osborn noted:
“‘They want to grow,’ Spurs CEO R.C. Buford said last week when he revealed on the YouTube show TRASH TALK that eight or ten players were expected to join Wembanyama in France for workouts. Buford said Wembanyama organizing the practices underscores his leadership skills. ‘Just seeing Victor calling his team and saying, ‘Hey, come over here and spend a week with me’ (shows his leadership).'”
Despite being 22, Victor Wembanyama has already begun showing signs of being a great leader. From his disposition while speaking with the media to his outlook on competition and his performances on the court, the superstar clearly leads by example.
Perhaps the prominent gesture of leadership and commitment to the franchise was his decision to leave $51 million on the table when he signed his latest five-year extension with the team. By accepting a considerably smaller sum, a decision that has been criticized by many, the 22-year-old has ensured San Antonio will have enough flexibility to retain the key players on the roster and keep the core intact.
