The Brotherhood: Can dreams come true?

Fadeaway World

Fadeaway World

“I really hope that, before our career is over, we can all play together ... At least one, maybe one or two seasons - me, Melo, D-Wade, CP - we can get a year in,” said LeBron James in March this year.

Imagine that quartet, Chris Paul as PG, Dwyane Wade as SG, Carmelo Anthony as SF and LeBron James as PF. Very impressive. But I can say, only by names. This year LeBron and Paul are in top 10 players for sure, but Melo and Dwyane are slowly leaving their prime time. They can show us at the moment their greatness, but consistency is their main issue. Cohesion and chemistry will be at the top for granted, but years are very cruel and unmerciful enemy. Experience will help, but playing the whole season with two months of high-intensity games in the NBA Playoff series will be very tough for these superstars. But even if they don’t beat Golden State record and win a title, it will be very pleasing for the eyes to watch a team like this.

This is a case if all of this trades happen, but when and where can this “wet dream” happen?

LeBron James and Dwyane are free agents this summer, but other two of this “Fantastic 4” are under contracts, so we will conclude that we can’t see this situation in season 2016-2017. And also, LeBron just won Championship and finally made his prophecy as Chosen One for C-City, so his disappearance will be abnormal.

What about next year?

Rose’s trade perfectly fit for this dream team. Knicks got Rose, whose contract expires next summer, plus they get rid of Calderon, Grant and Lopez and their huge contracts. Projected salary cap on next summer is around $107M and if D-Wade and LeBron sign this summer 1+1 contracts, what will they do probably, they will become available next summer.

CP3 can opt-out from his contract and only Melo is under contract for one more year. Can Knicks afford it? "I'd take a pay cut if it happens," Anthony said. "I think we all would have to take a pay cut." After season 2016-2017, Knicks will have only $30,3M, from which $26M belongs to Anthony’s contract, so eventually pay cut will add even more space in the salary cap. They also have Porzingis with $4,6M, but that’s a team option, so they can sign him or not, whatever they choose. So, they will have uppermost space in salary cap among all teams in whole NBA. And if those great friends take a pay cut, we could watch this fairytale in real life.

"I don't know," Anthony said. "We've still got years in this league, so we'll see what happens. Everybody dreams sometimes. Everybody has fantasies.” So, we have also. Is it going to happen, we’ll see, but one wise woman once said: “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is the reality.”
