Although many people might say the opposite, it is fair to say that the English Premier League is the best football league in the world given the fact that its level has massively improved in the last couple of years. Besides the good showdowns, we get to see every weekend, there are players who make fans believe the league doesn’t have any competition.
Some of the best footballers in the world play in the Premier League right now, making the tournament a very exciting one. Unlike other competitions like the La Liga or Bundesliga where only two or three teams count with impressive assets, this league has known how to provide at least one player to see in each team in the competition.
Nonetheless, only a few of them can actually become the best of the best in England. There is an exclusive group of player that can be called the best in the league at this moment, even though they face big competition. Maybe some names in our list will sound crazy, but here are the 10 best players in Premier League right now.
Honorable Mention: Richarlison
10. Wilfried Zaha
Crystal Palace’s asset, Wilfried Zaha, has been in the radar of the best teams in England and after this season, plenty of teams in the continent will be trying to acquire his services, too. Zaha has done great for Palace alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka and now is only a matter of time before we see the Ivorian playing in a more important team.
Maybe his eight goals this season don’t sound as good as others’ in this list, Zaha has become a very important agent at Selhurst Park. The way he distributes the ball, how he controls it with his feet, the chances of goals he creates and the dribbles have made Zaha one of the most-wanted players in England right now, as he is one of the best footballers in Premier League this term.
9. Paul Pogba
Despite his back and forth with former boss Jose Mourinho, Paul Pogba has signed his name as one of the best players in England first tie this campaign. Now with club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United’s helmsman, the French midfielder is looking more and more like his old self.
Just when his team more needed it, Pogba became the leader of the club and things have gotten a lot better after that. He is the guy in charge of organizing the game of the team, distribute the ball and sometimes give that last pass the strikers need to beat goalkeepers. His offensive level wasn’t the only thing that improved, as his defensive tasks have been getting better and better every weekend, turning Pogba into the best player in his club.
8. Son Heung-Min
Argentinean boss Mauricio Pochetino and his team, Tottenham Hotspurs, have found a gem in Korean forward Son Heung-Min. Son has played absolutely great this season and would have been considered in a higher spot if it wasn’t for his international duties with the Korean national team. He landed in Tottenham a couple of years ago and even if his performances were good at the beginning, this campaign he took things to another level.
The striker has been a life savior for the Spurs in more than one occasion, scoring to get wins or to tie games that looked locked up for rivals. He has made a great duo with Harry Kane and has connected very well with his teammates, as Sonny is seen as one of the most important assets in the North London side. It looks like it’s only a matter of time before we see the Korean striker playing in a bigger club.
7. Harry Kane
The 25-year-old striker is one of the hottest in the world right now thanks to his performances both with Tottenham and England national team. Kane is expected to leave his current club in order to sign with a bigger one and find new challenges the next summer.
This season he has played the same way he’s been playing for the last couple of years: astonishing. Kane is one of the leaders of his club and has shown his maturity on the pitch this term, confirming he’s not a fluke but a reality. Harry ranks second in goals scored with 17 and fourth in shots with 93.
6. Sergio Aguero
It looks like Sergio Aguero gets better with the years, unlike many others. The Argentinean striker has delivered in every single season since he landed in Manchester from Atletico Madrid. Aguero has seen how his name became a synonym of danger and scoring throughout his eight-year tenure with the Citizens and it doesn’t like that’s going to stop any time soon.
Aguero is the Premier League top scorer this season thanks to his 18 dimes, is one of the leaders in shots and also figures as a reliable assister. Manchester City counts with great players, but the things “El Kun” does for his team are extremely important; even his boss, Pep Guardiola, praises the striker on a weekly basis.
5. Virgil van Dijk
Dutch center-back Virgil van Dijk had been doing a great job since his days with Southampton, but now with Liverpool, Virgil has become one of the best players in the league. Now as a part of the Reds, van Dijk has shown the entire league how good he can play and how good as a leader he can be.
Virgil has done nothing but playing great this season, being recognized by many as one of the best defenders in the world. This season he managed to create a wall in Liverpool defense no matter who’s playing with him in defense. Alongside goalkeeper Allison, van Dijk has made a great duo at Anfield.
4. Raheem Sterling
Ever since Raheem Sterling introduced himself to the football world with Liverpool, the English player hasn’t stopped playing great. Albeit his first times in Manchester City weren’t the best, Raheem knew how to overcome that and thanks to his performances, Pep Guardiola and his teammates started to recognize how good of a player he was.
Playing alongside players like Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva or Bernardo Silva might make things harder for Sterling, but he has shown that’s not a problem given the fact that he’s one of the leaders of assists in the league this season. Of course, his dribbling skills make him one of the most unbalancing players in the league and he knows how to use that in his favor. There is no doubt that the Jamaican-born player is one of the best we’ve seen this year in the Premier League.
3. Mohamed Salah
Last season was a magical one for Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, who saw how his name became recognized across the globe. Salah had a nearly perfect season and when some doubters believed he wasn’t going to be able to replicate his performances, Salah proved all of them wrong. He sat on the second spot in top scorers’ category with 17 goals and is the leader of shots made with 107.
Maybe his scores haven’t been as amusing as they were last season and the beginning of this one wasn’t precisely the best, Mo is still playing at the best level again, leading his team, Liverpool, to a very good campaign in an association with Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk. The Reds are looking to win the Premier League for the first time in history and the Faraon can help them achieve that if he keeps his good level.
2. Eden Hazard
Hazard’s beginnings in Premier League weren’t the best, as he struggled during his first seasons with Chelsea. Luckily for him, now he’s living a completely different moment, being the leader and maximum figure of the Blues, even though the club isn’t having the best time.
Contrary to Chelsea’s season, Hazard’s has been absolutely marvelous; he ranks fourth in goals scored with 13 and leads both dribble and assists categories with 93 and 11 so far, respectively. Eden is rumored to be leaving Chelsea in the next months and the great season he’s having so far might accelerate that process.
1. Sadio Mane
The things Sadio Mane is doing this season are terrific. He was incredible about two years ago, but last season his level went a little bit down –maybe at the expense of the great season Mo Salah had- and now Mane is back as a good or even better player than he was a couple of seasons ago. The Senegalese striker has had an outstanding season both in England and Europe, having great performances and taking Liverpool to succeed in Premier and Champions League.
Mane is tied with several players at the second position in the goals scored category with 17 and is sixth in shots with 63, much less than his teammate Salah. However, not only his goals can speak for him, it’s the way he’s played this campaign, helping the team in defense, giving assists to teammates and more important, he shows up when his team is in more need. For all those reasons Sadio Mane is the best player in the Premier League at this moment.
