September is getting closer and that means European teams have less time to make their desired signings. We’ve seen some sagas that haven’t been solved since the beginning of the summer transfer window starting to look more likely as the days go by. Besides, surprising rumors have seen the light, making the last days of the free market really interesting.
The Premier League window may have shut, but the rest of the leagues are entering the last moments of the race to purchase the players that will take them to improve their level. Today, we’re going to list off the six biggest sagas of the summer that need to be solved before the European deadline strikes on September 2.
Here are the 6 big moves waiting to happen before the end of the transfer window.
Mauro Icardi to Juventus
Following the arrival of Romelu Lukaku in Milan, Internazionale are set to part ways with Mauro Icardi, with his preferred destination being Juventus. A lot has been said about this saga, but so far nothing has happened. Icardi and his wife/agent Wanda Nara have tried everything to force a move away, but that’s been useless.
It was reported that Inter, Napoli and Roma had made an ‘anti-Juve’ alliance to prevent the Argentinian striker to sign with the Bianconeri, but Juve remain as the frontrunners to get Icardi’s signature. Internazionale are reportedly monitoring four more strikers to replace Icardi, so that could mean we’re about to see this guy making his way to Turin, or somewhere else.
Paulo Dybala to Paris Saint-Germain
Paulo Dybala was about to join both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur right before the closure of the Premier League transfer window, but some financial issues frustrated any prospect of a deal between Juve and the English sides.
Now, the Old Lady is trying to find a new team for Dybala, as the money they get from him will probably be used to pursue our first spot, Mauro Icardi. Paris Saint-Germain have inscribed their name on Dybala’s list of suitors, and recent reports suggest Les Parisiens are set to start talks with Juve’s officials trying to strike a deal for ‘La Joya’.
Neymar Jr. to Barcelona
This is arguably the biggest saga of the summer alongside Paul Pogba and his back and forth with Real Madrid and Manchester United. Barcelona are keen to reunite with Neymar this summer, and it looks like they’re getting close to it. PSG have accepted the fact that the Brazilian won’t be part of the club, but they first need to sign a replacement for the outgoing winger.
With Madrid dismissing a move for the 27-year-old, Barcelona are ready to put their hands on Neymar and bring him back to Catalonia. It looks like everything is connected on this list, as the potential arrival of Neymar in Barcelona would unlock Dybala’s move to Paris Saint-Germain, hence Icardi would go to the Allianz Stadium.
Paul Pogba to Real Madrid
What is left to say about this saga? Paul Pogba has been one of Real Madrid’s top targets since the beginning of the summer transfer window, but a move to the Spanish capital looks more and more complicated for the Frenchman as the days go by, with Manchester United resistant to let him go.
However, that doesn’t seem to be the end for Los Blancos, who are reportedly set to make a last push for the French midfielder before the European transfer deadline strikes. Madrid tried to offer swap deals for Pogba to the Red Devils, but they turned down every single one. Now it’s unclear how they will pursue Pogba after all the money they have spent this summer.
James Rodriguez to Atletico Madrid
James Rodriguez might be making his way to Atletico Madrid this summer; a move that could be used by Real Madrid to raise funds to place a bid for Paul Pogba that can actually persuade Manchester to part with the midfielder.
Rodriguez was linked with a move to Italy, where his former boss Carlo Ancelotti was waiting for him, but Real’s demands were a deal-breaker for Napoli and their president. Now, the only option that James apparently has is Atletico Madrid. Albeit strengthening a direct rival is not the most desired scenario for Madrid, a potential James sale might be very helpful for them.
Christian Eriksen to Real Madrid
In the case that Real Madrid can’t strike a deal for Pogba, here is their first-choice alternative to the Frenchman. Christian Eriksen has entered his last year with Tottenham Hotspur, but the Danish playmaker has made it clear that he’d like to leave the club and find new challenges, with Madrid thought to be his preferred destination.
Besides Madrid, Juventus have shown their interest in the former Ajax player, but in the case of the Zebras, they are aiming to sign Eriksen for free next summer. Of course, this is not good for the Spurs, who offered Eriksen to Manchester United trying not to lose the midfielder for nothing next summer.
Things are unclear now, as Madrid insist on pursuing Paul Pogba. Still, the Dane might find his way to the Santiago Bernabeu should the Spanish side decides to sign him instead of Pogba.
