Every Arsenal fan was pissed off after the teams failed mightily to win the Europa League Finals against Premier League rivals Chelsea in Baku. The North Londoners were trashed by 4-1 on Wednesday with goals from Olivier Giroud, Pedro and Eden Hazard; Alex Iwobi tried to start Arsenal’s comeback when the game was 3-0 in favor of the Blues before Hazard sealed the game for his team with his second goal of the night.

Former Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger sent a lot of criticism towards the team after their “collapse” in Azerbaijan, stating ‘it was a sad night’ for the Gunners. Losing the game meant that Arsenal ended the season without winning a single title and without the chance to play Champions League football next season.

“I felt that in the first half we did quite alright but as soon as Chelsea scored the first goal we collapsed completely,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“In the second half we didn’t exist. It was a sad night for us.”

Still, Wenger credited the team for reaching a continental final despite the way they lost it.

“I agree that until the quarter-final in the Europa League you play with a reserve team when you play in England because the Premier League is so demanding,” the Frenchman added.

“I would say that even in the Champions League group stage you rest players, when you have a difficult game over the weekend, sometimes even in the group stage because you’re close to qualifying.

“The Premier League is so difficult that until the quarter-final the teams play with (players) who do not play in the Premier League.

“I think in recent years it is always the team who got knocked out in the Champions League group stage who won for many, many years in the Europa League.”

Wenger was Arsenal’s boss for 22 years between 1996 and 2018 and he took the team to win and play for important things; he was replaced by Unai Emery this season and even though the team was unable to win a single trophy, nobody in Emirates Stadium can say this season wasn’t good for them.
