The Neymar saga appears to be getting close to its end, but we still have to wait a little more before we see the Brazilian signing for either Real Madrid or Barcelona. In recent hours we learned that Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain had reportedly agreed on a deal to send the Brazilian back to Catalonia, but now the La Liga champions have dismissed those claims.
Sky Sports Italia reported earlier today that a deal was close to being completed. According to Italian journalist Gianluca DI Marzio, Barcelona were close to striking a deal for the forward. However, the Catalonians insist that no deal has been agreed yet
Furthermore, ESPN’s Moi Llorens denied all those rumors, insisting that this move could be finished by September 2, the last day of the transfer window.
Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu and PSG’s Nasser Al-Khelaifi are in Monaco attending the Champions League group stage draw. The two sides have been in long-running talks over a possible return of Neymar to Barcelona, the club he left in 2017 in a world-record £200 million deal.
With the European transfer window set to close on Monday, PSG had reportedly rejected an offer of £118 million, plus Ivan Rakitic, Jean-Cair Todibo and a season-long loan for Dembele.
Initial reports suggested that all the players mentioned above, excluding Dembele, were part of a reached agreement, but now we see it wasn’t like that.
Neymar spent four campaigns in the Camp Nou, scoring 101 goals in 185 games, forming one of the most lethal attacking trios in football alongside Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. Played together upfront, they won two La Liga titles, in 2014 and 2015, as well as the 2015 Champions League.
