The Neymar saga was in everybody’s mouth over the summer and attracted several people trying to contribute to making the Brazilian return to Barcelona. Neymar was advised by legends, former teammates and more. Everybody wanted to take him to Barcelona, and some players actually intended to help the club to land the winger.

Despite all the speculation it was pretty surprising to see the player staying this offseason.

After all the situation ended, reports are emerging suggesting that some Barcelona players wanted to see him come back to Spain and went further to help the team land their desired asset.

According to Sport, Neymar was willing to pay €20 million himself to re-join Barcelona, while some of the senior Barcelona players were also willing to put up some of their own money to make the deal happen. They suggest that the players saw the return of Neymar to Barcelona as a very important matter, not hesitating to offer their financial help to the La Liga champions.

The report adds that with these additional funds a deal could have been done, but Barcelona’s officials thought the deal didn’t make financial sense and thought it would be crazy if they gave in to all of PSG’s demands.

Nevertheless, just like some players were ready to offload some cash to bring Ney to Catalonia, others weren’t that open to the idea of him returning to Spain, which reportedly caused a split in the dressing room.

It’s unclear if that split happened between those who wanted Neymar and those who backed new signing Antonie Griezmann. In the end, Griezmann did land in Barcelona and is set to show his value this season to convince fans and the club’s board that they don’t need to re-sign the Brazilian star next summer.
