Every now and then football gives us curious stories to remember and this time one is involving one of the biggest clubs in the world, the all-powerful FC Barcelona.

As you may know, Barcelona are trying to replace injured Luis Suarez and they apparently had the best candidate for the job. However, things turned an unexpected direction.

Barcelona had reportedly agreed on a deal with Chinese club Beijing Guoan to take Cedric Bakambu on loan for the rest of the season. Just when everybody thought the deal was to be completed, the Blaugrana pulled out.

The Congolese international had to take two flights to reach Spain as he was in South Korea.

Bakambu had made it to Hong Kong before receiving a phone call from Barca's Sporting Director Eric Abidal, in which he explained that the deal was off. Bakambu took to Twitter to poke fun at the situation.

Bakambu tweeted statistics website Transfermarkt to ask if he could have 'Almost Barcelona' in his transfer history. They have a very funny exchange and the site sent an edited page with Barcelona in the 28-year-old's list of clubs.

He also tagged Blaugrana forward Antoine Griezmann and said he would 'see him another time'. Bakambu and Griezmann played together at a youth level in the French national team.

This was probably the last chance Barcelona had to sign a new striker, but it looks like they won’t be adding anybody during this window.
